Below are this month’s nominees:

Girls:

Halle Parkin – Golf – Riverton High School

4 year high school career, lowest scoring average in school history

Carissa Graft – Golf – Bingham High School

Carissa has been one of the most consistent golfers in the state for the past two years.  She routinely places in the top 3 in region tournaments and goes out of her way to get to know her fellow golfers regardless of what team they come from.  She continually encourages the other girls on her team as well as within the region to do their best and enjoy the game of golf as much as she does. This past week at Talon’s Cove, Carissa pulled out her best two rounds of golf in her high school career.  She shot a 65 on day 1 and to prove that it wasn’t a fluke, she shot a 66 on day 2 to be the 6A state champion by a margin of 6 strokes.

Boys:

Robbie Walker – Track & Field – Riverton High School

Robbie is one of the best Pole Vaulters in Utah history and the current 6a state record holder in the Pole Vault.  Not only is currently the best vaulter in the state he is on of the best High Jumpers and Long Jumps. The reasons why I feel Robbie deserve this scholarship is 1) his willingness to do anything for his team. and 2) his work ethic in pursuit of excellence is unmatched.

  • 15′ 9″ in the pole vault TOP 35 in the USA.
  • 6’3″ in the High Jump. 20’7″ in the long Jump

Peyton Jones – Baseball – Bingham High School

Peyton Jones is the existential example of a true student-athlete.  He excels in the classroom as well as on the mound. Peyton is a three sport athlete who is currently the left handed ace for the Miners.  When Peyton is not throwing the heat on the mound, he can be found in right field hustling after every hit to back up his team. In the dugout, Peyton is the vocal leader encouraging his teammates to focus on their goals and get the job done at the plate while always staying positive regardless of the outcome.  He provides leadership both on and off the field of play motivating classmates as well as teammates to do their best.

Robbie Gallo – Baseball – Corner Canyon High School

Robbie has done excellent job leading the team this season

Blake Freeland – Track & Field – Herriman High School

Won Javelin, Discus, and Shot Put at State Track.  Set the 6A State records for both Shot Put and Javelin, and no one has ever won all three throwing events at State in 4A-6A.

Bronson Cline – Baseball – Herriman High School

Lead Herriman High School to their 1st appearance at UVU, hit 342 on the season with 4 homer runs including a Grand Slam!

Kael Nicholson – Tennis – Herriman High School

Kael is not only an outstanding athlete ( reached the semifinals in 6A second singles), but also an outstanding student.  He is not only academically outstanding, he also is involved in his community and music. He’s a very well rounded student athlete.
